A smoker's ash receptacle comprises a casing 1 with an apertured drum 2 in the top thereof rotatable about a horizontal axis to discharge ash &c. deposited therein into a container 4, the front plate 7 of the receptacle having a pocket 9 projecting therefrom to form a removable lining for the container 4 and being rockable about an axis 8 located at or near its lower edge to empty the pocket 9. The drum 2 may be biased by its own weight or by a spring either to a position in which the drum aperture 2a coincides with the corresponding aperture in the casing or a position in which the drum closes the casing aperture, and is rotated either by a lever on the drum spindle or by a bridge-type handle connected to both ends of the spindle. The plate 7 is held in position by a screwed bolt 10 having a head 11 housed in a recess 12 and adapted to be engaged by a special key 13 for unscrewing of the bolt to empty the container 9 by swinging the plate 7 forwardly. The receptacle may be fixed in position by screws 15 passing througii the back plate thereof, the heads of which are only accessible when the front plate 7 is lowered.
