Disclosed is a simple method for removing boron from a metal silicon extremely efficiently at low cost. After heating a metal silicon containing boron as an impurity to a temperature not less than the melting point and not more than 2,200°C so that the metal silicon is in a molten state, a solid substance mainly composed of silicon dioxide and another solid substance mainly composed of one or both of an alkali metal carbonate and an alkali metal carbonate hydrate are added to the molten silicon, so that slag is formed while removing boron from the silicon.
