HERBAL EXTRACTS CONTAINING NICOTINE-LIKE ACTIVITIES AND NEW SUBSTITUTIONAL COMPOSITION OF NICOTINE

Herbal extracts having nicotine-like activities and a substitutional composition of nicotine are provided to prohibit smoking without toxicity by increasing expression of c-fos in nucleus accumbens of brain and tyrosine hydroxylase in ventral tegmental area, augmenting brain activity, and strongly binding to a nicotine receptor in [3H] nicotine binding assay in vitro. The substitutional composition of nicotine comprises at least one medicinal herb extract selected from Angelica gigas Nakai, Cistanche deserticola Y. C. Ma and Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE, wherein the medicinal herb extract is prepared with water, ethanol or ethanol solution; the amount of Angelica gigas Nakai, Cistanche deserticola Y. C. Ma and Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE are 20-100 wt.%, 15-80 wt.% and 20-80 wt.%, respectively; and the composition further comprises Perilla frutescens var. acuta Kudo.
