A water-quenched slag having a CaO content of 40-55 per cent and containing substantially all its iron content as Fe2O3 is produced by adding a lime material to coal ash from a coal ash fusing furnace. The lime may be added in several stages to the molten slag and is preferably preheated. If the alumina content of the coal is low, alumina, or a clay containing alumina, is added together with the lime material. Portland cement is added to the finely milled slag to give a slag cement.
|
