A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to execute stable discharge during a sustain period by improving negative sustain pulse applied to a scan or sustain electrode during the sustain period and to secure a driving margin. A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel(500) having scan electrodes(Y1~Yn) and sustain electrodes(Z); driving units(502,503,504) for driving the plasma display panel by applying a signal to the electrodes; and a pulse control unit(501) making the width of a first negative sustain pulse applied to one of the scan and sustain electrodes, wider than that of the other negative sustain pulses during sustain periods of plural subfields by controlling the driving units and selectively controlling the negative sustain pulse firstly applied, according to the weighted value of each subfield.
