PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data management apparatus, method and program facilitating searches for data such as images by adding attribute information to the data. SOLUTION: An image to which an additional attribute is added is first selected through input operations from a keyboard 32 or a mouse 34, etc., (step S10), and a new additional attribute item is inputted (step S12). This results in the setting of the new attribute item of the image for use in image searches. Next, the image identifier (ID) of the image selected in the step S10 is obtained (step S14) and the value of an additional attribute is inputted (step S16). This results in the update of an additional attribute management table T30 (step S18). The operations from step S14 to step S18 are repeated whereby the operator is able to set the value of the additional attribute (e.g., setting "first daughter", "second son", or "mother" to the additional attribute item "attribute 1 (family)") to the image stored in an image management database 14.
