PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device in which a projector can be miniaturized and whose reliability is satisfactory. SOLUTION: The projection type display device 1 is equipped with; a projector 2 equipped with a plurality of light sources 11 to 13 which are driven in accordance with a image signal and an optical scanning means 20 which two-dimensionally scans rays of light emitted from the plurality of light sources 11 to 13 in accordance with the image signal respectively; and a screen 30 on which rays of light emitted from the projector 2 are projected and color images are displayed, and the display device is characterized in that the plurality of light sources 11 to 13 of the projector 30 are constituted respectively of a red light emitting light source, a short wavelength light source which emits a short wavelength light having a wavelength equal to or shorter than 410nm and a blue light emitting light source. The screen 30 is applied with phosphor 32 which performs fluorescence of green light by being excited with a short wavelength light L2 emitted from the short wavelength light source 12.
