A separator for removing liquids from gases in IC engine crankcases comprises a cyclone (1) with a gas inlet and outlet. An outlet (14) is closed by a movable plate (20) whose edges fit against a valve seat (21). The edges have a peripheral rib (24) which fits into a groove (33) in the valve seat, forming a labyrinth seal.
