PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in an equipment layout design system for a plant consisting of a plurality of floors by three-dimensional CAD wherein vertical equipment position adjustment is troublesome. SOLUTION: A reference layout rule database predetermining positions on a three-dimensional space of equipment constituting the plant is stored in an arithmetic processor. Plant basic plan information such as plant output, height of each floor, equipment configuration and building dimension is inputted to the arithmetic processor. A basic coordinate system is set on the three-dimensional space based on information for standard structural materials contained in the plant basic plan information. According to the reference layout rule, equipment/piping/passage and a software volume of each floor are set as equipment layout positions on the coordinate system to form an equipment layout design drawing.
