PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a space occupied by a capping member 190 for sealing a liquid jetting head and a mechanism related to it in a liquid jetting apparatus. SOLUTION: A platen 160 for supporting a recording paper 120, a recording head 156 for jetting an ink to the recording paper 120, the capping member 190 fixed by facing the recording head 156, a carriage 150 for carrying the recording head 156, a guiding shaft 140 for guiding the carriage 150 while the carriage 150 is slidably supported, and an elevating mechanism 30 for displacing the guiding shaft 140 in the direction intersecting at right angles to the main scanning direction so that a distance between the recording head 156 and the platen 160 changes, are provided. The recording head 156 is hermetically sealed by the capping member 190 by lowering the guiding shaft 140 and bringing it into close contact with the capping member 190 when the recording head 156 is in a resting region.
