摘要 A controller is provided for a vehicle drive device having a differential mechanism capable of performing differential function. The controller enables reduction of the size of the drive device, improves fuel consumption, and increases the output torque. By providing a switching clutch C0 or a switching brake B0, a speed change mechanism (10) is switched between a step-less speed change state and a stepped speed change state. That is, it is possible to obtain a drive device having both advantages: the speed change ratio is electrically modified and the gear fuel consumption is improved; and a gear transmission device mechanically transmit power with a high efficiency. Moreover, upon engine start and during travel, the switching clutch C0 is set to a semi-engaged state by switching control means (50). Accordingly, while the differential unit (11) can operate as electrically step-less gear, a reactive torque is generated for the engine torque T<SUB>E</SUB> by the semi-engagement of the switching clutch C0. The engine torque T<SUB>E</SUB> above the torque that a first motor M1 can have can be inputted to the differential unit (11), thereby increasing the output torque.
