A ground fabric for masking comprised of a composite composed of a support of water-soluble fiber laminated with a water-soluble film. This ground fabric for masking is used to, in the production of embroidered cloth including the step of piece dyeing of embroidered part by a transfer paper, prevent migration of dye from perforated line region at the time of transfer dyeing. This ground fabric for masking can be easily dissolved away by the use of water and is suitable for use in the production of embroidered cloth that even when the embroidery is one of complex color pattern, realizes clear color and contour of the embroidered part and that excels in drape.
