An upright type vacuum cleaner is provided to easily detach the dust collecting unit from the body, and increase the convenience of a user by using the latch formed at one side of the upper cover. An upright type vacuum cleaner is composed of: a body; a dust collecting unit having a dust collecting container where the impurities are collected by the cyclone flow, and an upper cover(200) for shielding the upper surface of the dust collecting container; and a latch(220) formed at one side of the upper cover, longitudinally moved, and detached from the body. A hanging unit(222) is formed at the latch, and a hanging end is formed at the body. A rib(224) is formed at the upper cover to support the latch. The upper cover contains a spring(225) for applying the elastic force to the latch.
