PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reproducing apparatus capable of quickly and easily extracting a desired still picture from a reproduced series of moving pictures. SOLUTION: A picture acquisition button is pressed down when an operator determines that the desired still picture arrives while reproducing a magnetic tape in a reproduction mode, and still pictures arriving before and after the picture acquired at that time with the picture as reference are extracted at each optional time interval and displayed on a multi-screen. The optional time interval is set so as to become gradually longer as the optional time interval becomes far from the still picture of the reference, and the time interval is configured to be changeable in accordance with the number of times of operating up/down buttons 41 and 42. The up/down buttons 41 and 42 are operated to change an time interval of a picture to be displayed, pictures close to the desired still picture are detected and selected, and narrowing down is further carried out to find the desired still picture which a user wants to store in a memory card 25.
