摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the exhaust emission control performance in an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: First and second catalyst devices 37, 38 for purifying and processing HC, CO, NOx or the like contained in exhaust gas are provided to an exhaust pipe 36 of an engine 101. A hydrocarbon adsorbing device 39 for absorbing and processing hydrocarbon contained in exhaust gas is provided between the first and second catalyst devices 37, 38, wherein a second passage 54 is formed on the outside of a first passage 53, a catalyst part 55 carrying a HC adsorbent is included in the second passage 54 and an opening/closing valve 56 is provided to the first passage 53. When temperatures of respective catalyst devices 37, 38 are lower than the activation temperature and a temperature of the hydrocarbon adsorbing device 39 is the hydrocarbon desorption temperature or higher, the first passage 53 is opened by the opening/closing valve 56 to lead exhaust gas thereinto. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
