<p>An apparatus for making score lines on a sheet of glass 1 (Fig 1) comprises a bridge 2 extending across and above the sheet of glass 1, and means for moving the bridge 2 relative to the glass 1 in a longitudinal direction, the bridge 2 having mounted thereon scoring tools 15, 18 for making transverse and longitudinal score lines respectively, the mountings for the tools 15, 18 including positioning means to bring a scoring tool on to its scoring line and to move it to one side of its scoring line to permit the passage of another scoring tool. The tools 15, <PICT:0998579/C1/1> <PICT:0998579/C1/2> 18 are each mounted by means of two rams 16, 17 and 19, 20 respectively to allow raising and lowering of the tools (rams 16, 19) and horizontal movement (rams 17, 20). The ram 20 may be a double ram (Fig. 5) one member 21 of which operates between two adjustable stroke-limiting stops to provide for two positions of the tool 18, and the other member 22 moves the tool 18 into or away from the scoring position. A plurality of longitudinal scoring tools may be provided and the rams may be automatically controlled.</p> |
