PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide information which is estimated that necessity is great for a user in accordance with conditions during traveling. SOLUTION: The navigation apparatus comprises an own vehicle position acquisition means 1 for acquiring an own vehicle position, a map data storage means 2 for storing a variety of map data required for map drawing such as road route networks and direction names at intersections, a direction guidance information acquisition means 3 for acquiring direction names of connection directions at intersections on a road route in the vicinity of the own vehicle position on the basis of the own vehicle position acquired by the own vehicle position acquisition means 1 and the map data from the map data storage means 2, a direction name selection means 4 for selecting one direction name out of a plurality of direction names acquired by the direction guidance information acquisition means 3 in accordance with the display condition of a display screen, the traveling condition of the own vehicle, or the own vehicle position, and a display screen creation means 5 for for combining the direction name selected by the direction name selection means 4 with a simple map image to create the display screen.
