PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of stabilizing the steering performance by sensing a failure in or malfunction of sensors to sense the stroke end of a rack bar. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device 10 is equipped with sensors 61 and 62 to sense that the rack bar 14 is immediately before abutting to the left or the right stroke end, an abutting sensing means 56 to sense the rack bar 14 abutting to the stroke end, and a stroke end controlling means 70 to control the operation of an electric motor on the basis of the sensing results of the sensors 61 and 62 and the abutting sensing means 56, whereby determination is passed that the sensors 61 and 62 are in failure when the sensors 61 and 62 do not sense the stroke end and the abutting sensing means 56 has sensed abutted condition.
