PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact element drive device which allows one vibration actuator to cause no large drive load on the other vibration actuator. SOLUTION: The element drive device has a base member 1 for movably holding an element holding member 3 in mutually orthogonal first and second directions, a first vibration actuator 6 for driving the element holding member to the base member in the first direction, and a second vibration actuator 7 for driving the element holding member to the base member in the second direction. The first and second vibration actuators are held by one out of the element holding member and the base member. A control means generates second vibration not substantially driving the element holding member to the other vibration actuator when generating first vibration driving the element holding member to one vibration actuator out of the first and second vibration actuator.
