PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus capable of satisfactorily distinguishing and recognizing recessions, protrusions, and stains from one another and also detecting their sizes. SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus has a field of view at right angles in the direction of transfer and lights the field of view of a line camera, arranged in such a way as to photograph an object to be measured from vertically above the object to be measured. The lighting apparatus is constituted of a lighting device, arranged on the upstream side so as to irradiate the field of view of the line camera at a prescribed angle with luminous flux spreading at right angles in the direction of transfer; a lighting device, arranged on the downstream side so as to irradiate the field of view of the line camera at a prescribed angle with luminous flux spreading at right angles in the direction of the transfer of the object to be measured; and a lighting changeover device for changing over lighting for each line, in such a way that the downstream-side lighting device is OFF, when the upstream-side lighting device is ON, and that the downstream-side lighting device is ON, when the upstream-side lighting device is OFF. An image processing apparatus is constituted, in such a way as to include the line camera, and images are processed through the use of the image processing apparatus. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
