PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for punching a foam for surely and easily opening a straight hole at a desired position in the foam to be suitably used for a roller member in an image forming device, etc., and to provide a method for manufacturing a foam roller by using the punching method. SOLUTION: In this method for punching the columnar foam 10, a longitudinal direction outer periphery of the foam 10 is held by a frame body 12 to punch the hole communicated in the longitudinal direction in the foam 10. The frame body 12 having holding part cross-sectional area smaller than cross section orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the foam 10 is used.
