An endoscope device that enables, in insertion of an endoscope insertion section into a body cavity, the insertion to be easily and smoothly performed in a short time while allowing a user to observe the inside of the body cavity by a stable endoscope image, and that improves easiness of insertion of the insertion section into a body cavity. To achieve this, the endoscope device has an insertion section and a rotation device for rotating the insertion section about its longitudinal axis. The insertion section is provided with a forward end section having an imaging unit including an optical system and with a rotating body having a spirally shaped section on its outer peripheral surface. Further, the insertion section is flexible in its entirety and is constructed such that the imaging unit is not rotated in association with the rotation of the rotating body. The forward end section has a rotation restriction means.
