PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magnetic recording medium having a high squareness ratio by achieving a high orientation property, when a magnetic layer of upper layer is formed to a thin layer of≤50 nm by an wet-on-dry method. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the magnetic recording medium, a time period attaining an orientation device C for processing the magnetic field orientation from a die (applicator) 101 for applying a magnetic paint is settled to≤0.05 second, and also a magnetic field strength in the orientation process is settled to≥0.8 T and <1.6 T.
