PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medicine having excellent prevention and/or treatment effect on diseases in an ophthalmic field, especially on inflammatory diseases and low toxicity. SOLUTION: The medicine for preventing and/or treating diseases in an ophthalmic field, preferably inflammatory diseases comprises a propionic acid derivative represented by formula (1) [R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-12C alkyl group, a phenyl group, a 1-naphthyl group or the like; (R<SP>3</SP>)<SB>b</SB>is 0-4 substituent groups such as a halogen atom or the like; R<SP>4</SP>is a lower alkyl group; R<SP>5</SP>is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; n is an integer of 2-4; X is -NH- or -O-] or its pharmaceutically permissible salt.
