PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a dibenzobiphenylene derivative, by which the dibenzobiphenylene derivative capable of being used as a material for organic semiconductor devices can efficiently be produced in good purity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the highly pure dibenzobiphenylene derivative represented by the general formula (1) comprises treating a 3,3'-dihalo-2,2'-binaphthyl derivative with a lithio compound-producing agent to produce the dilithio compound, treating the dilithio compound with a copper compound, subjecting the obtained impurity-containing dibenzobiphenylene derivative represented by the general formula (1) to a Soxhlet extraction or a sublimation purification treatment, and then recrystallizing the extract or the sublimation product.
