PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake control device for an engine capable of promptly completing up-shifting, and capable of reducing consumption of engine oil. SOLUTION: This intake control device is applied to the engine 2 of a vehicle 1 on which a manual transmission 8 is mounted, and changes valve timing through control of a valve opening/closing timing variable mechanism 6 provided in the engine 2. The intake control device performs a first treatment for increasing valve overlap quantity compared to that before an accelerator pedal 11 is released, when it is detected that the accelerator pedal 11 is released; and second treatment for interrupting the first treatment, when it is detected that up-shifting of the manual transmission 8 is performed during the execution of the first treatment.
