An exhaust gas return system has a cylinder (1) and an exhaust gas return line (15) is provided in each cylinder which discharges into the suction line (5) of each of the cylinder in such a manner that by the suction effect of the piston (2) in the cylinder with opened intake valve (8) an exhaust gas stream flows into the cylinder by the exhaust gas return line.
