<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus capable of securing the function as apparatus, even when a portion of a plurality of image retention units prepared for different colors becomes faulty, and enabling continuous operation. <P>SOLUTION: When a portion of a magnetic disk unit for use as image retention unit fails, an image data of a color of which the magnetic disk concerned has been taking charge is transferred and stored in a magnetic disk unit which takes charge of a different color. Also, when a portion of the magnetic disk unit is out of order, the line speed of a reader 30 at manuscript read operation is decreased further than the normal case, and/or page intervals are extended. Although a required storage and read time is extended because an extra image data for the failure is loaded on a normal magnetic disk unit, the required time therefor is secured by decreasing the line speed or lengthening the page interval, and thus, continuous operation can be achieved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
