<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for effectively controlling a nonspecific amplification and improving a specific amplification efficiency in a nucleic acid amplification, especially technology for optimally controlling the elongation reaction of a DNA polymerase. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for controlling the inactivation of the elongation reaction of a DNA polymerase contains an RecA protein derived from a highly thermophilic bacterium, which controls a thermoplastic inactivation function on elongation reaction of thermostable DNA polymerase. The method for amplifying a nucleic acid comprises amplifying a target nucleic acid by a polymerase chain reaction to which a thermoplastic inactivation function on the elongation reaction of a thermostable DNA polymerase is added and amplifying the target nucleic acid in the presence of the RecA protein derived from a highly thermophilic bacterium.
