<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a normal temperature soluble salt type electrolyte for an electrochemical device whose reduction decomposition voltage is lower and which can be used in a wide temperature range from an ultra low temperature to a high temperature, and to provide an electrochemical device which uses the electrolyte to operate safely even under a severe outside environment with excellent characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The electrolyte for an electrochemical device contains cyclic 4th class ammonium compound, represented by a general formula 1 as electrolyte. The electrochemical device is manufactured using the electrolyte. In the formula, n represents positive integer 2-6 while R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>3</SB>and R represent hydrogen atom which may be identical or different, or substituent selected from among alkyl group of carbon number 1-6.
