PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for coldforming and drawing operations particularly in the manufacture of two-piece beverage aluminum or steel cans by the use of ultra fine grained cemented carbide giving better performance than prior art tools. SOLUTION: The ultra fine grained cemented carbide for deep drawing and ironing tools in the manufacture of beverage aluminum or steel cans comprises WC, and V and/or Cr of ≤1 wt% as grain growth inhibitors and Co of 5 to 10 wt%, desirably, 5.5 to 8 wt%, and has a Vickers hardness HV of 30>2150-52×wt%Co.
