PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear projector capable of obtaining an image excellent in contrast. SOLUTION: The rear projector 300 includes a housing 340, a projection optical unit 310, a lightguide mirror 320, and a transmission type screen 330. The inside of the projector 300 has been subjected to light absorption treatment. The light absorption treatment includes the application of a material that absorbs light. The light absorption treatment includes the formation of minute recesses and projections. The light absorption treatment includes the formation of a light absorption film.
