PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cover patching device and method, which patches a cover on a booklet upon the collation with the fitness to the booklet, the number of pages (thickness) and contents of which are different from each other per volume. SOLUTION: In the cover patching device for patching the cover on the booklet and method, a booklet ID reading part for reading a booklet ID number printed on the booklet before patching the cover on the booklet, a cover ID reading part for reading a cover ID number printed on the cover before patching the cover on the booklet, a collating part for judging the existence of a proper corresponding relationship through the collation between the booklet ID number and the cover ID number and a controlling part, which controls so that whether the patching is executed when the relationship is judged to be proper or the patching is avoided when the relationship is judged not to be proper.
