PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thread insertion apparatus of a sewing machine capable of preventing the erroneous rotation of a thread insertion hook in all sections by a small space even when a thread insertion lever is operated under a severe condition. SOLUTION: The thread insertion apparatus 100 comprises: a needle bar 2 provided with a stopper 8; a thread insertion shaft 3 provided with the thread insertion hook 41; and the thread insertion lever 6 where a helical guide groove 65 is formed with the thread insertion shaft 3 as an axis. Also, the apparatus comprises a first projection part 51b projected from the thread insertion shaft 3 on the stopper 81, a second projection part 51a inserted to the guide groove 65, and an erroneous rotation preventing member 7 freely vertically movably supported to the thread insertion lever 6 on the second projection part 51a, rotation-fixed to the thread insertion lever 6, provided with a rotation regulation part 73 disposed on the upper end part side of the guide groove 65 in the peripheral direction of the thread insertion shaft 3 more than the first or second projection part 51b or 51a and provided with an unlocking part 74 extended to a part lower than the first projection part 51b on the stopper 81.
