<p>A rack bushing assembly (50) employed within a rack assembly for use with a housing (20) in a rack and pinion steering assembly (16), where the housing (20) includes a tubular end (34) within which the rack bushing assembly (50) is mountable. The rack bushing assembly (50) incorporates a rack bushing (52) having an annular main body (63), made of metal, including a cylindrical inner surface (64) and a cylindrical outer surface (66) and having a first end (54) and a second end (56). The main annular body also includes an integral lock ring portion (56) adjacent to the first end (54) having a retaining wire slot (68) extending around the outer surface (66) and a retaining wire bore (70) extending radially inward from the outer surface (66). A retaining wire (58) is mounted in the retaining wire slot (68) and bore (70) and cooperates with the integral lock ring portion (56) to provide for retention of the rack bushing assembly (50) within the tubular end (34) of the housing (20).</p> |
