<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote control apparatus that prevents a choice not associated with a required setting from being selected and easily grasps which choice is to be selected. <P>SOLUTION: The remote control apparatus includes a control object unit 1 that applies processing to a signal received from a second remote control unit 22 provided with key switches whose number is smaller than the number of key switches of a first remote control unit 21, the contents of the processing partly differ from the processing applied to the signal received from the first remote control unit 21. Then the control object unit 1 displays a menu compatible with the first remote control unit 21 when receiving the signal from the first remote control unit, and displays a menu compatible with the second remote control unit 22 when receiving the signal from the second remote control unit 22.
