PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which performs an efficient countermeasure for energy saving, and can display an image which maintains high quality without causing the deterioration of image quality in the imaging apparatus which has an LCD display device with back light illumination. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with a display means which has an image display unit to display an image signal, and a back light illuminator to illuminate the image display unit; a brightness control means which controls the brightness of the back light illuminator; a color property detection means which detects a color property of illumination irradiating a photographing object; and a timing means measuring a time. The brightness control means controls the brightness of the back light illuminator based on the detection result of the color property detection means when there is no operation input in a predetermined time measured by the timing means.
