A low alkali sliding material and a composition containing the low alkali sliding material are provided to prevent the deterioration of a counter part made of materials weak to alkali by making the sliding material of low alkali porous carbon matters of 8~10pH. The low alkali sliding material is made of porous carbon matters of 8~10pH produced by plasticizing the mixture containing bran and resol phenol resin without the residual metallic components, at 900 deg.C under inert gas atmosphere like nitrogen gas. A composition containing the low alkali sliding material consists of porous carbon powder of 8~10pH and binder components. The binder component is silicon resin paints. The grain size of the sliding material is 1~106 micrometers.
