<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based ink composition that has wide practicality and excellent writing performances by using a specific compound for chemically removing a gas in ink and a writing utensil containing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition comprises at least a colorant, a water-soluble organic solvent, water, cysteamine and/or its salt. The ink composition contains 0.01-5 wt.% of the cysteamine and/or its salt.
