PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor for establishing a high capacity and a low impedance. SOLUTION: This electric double layer capacitor is provided with a pair of electrodes and electrolytic solution in contact with the pair of electrodes, and the electrolytic solution contains a compound of formula (1) and organic solvent. In this case, R<SP>1</SP>is any group selected from groups constituted of a di-methylene group, a trimethylene group, a tetra-methylene group and a penta-methylene group, and R<SP>2</SP>is a tetra-methylene group or a penta-methylene group.
