PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing apparatus for placing a limit on the reproduction of video information depending on an environment wherein the video information is viewed. SOLUTION: An optical sensor 16 measures the lightness of a viewing place and transmits a measurement result to a control section 4. When the measurement result at the reproduction of the reproduction information does not satisfy the reference of the lightness for the viewing place indicated in environment information stored in a storage section 6, the control section 4 instructs a reproduction section 2 to stop reproduction.
