PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly stable crystal of 2'-(4'-ethylbenzyl)phenyl 5-thio-β-D-glucopyranoside; and to provide a method for producing the crystal. SOLUTION: The crystal of the 2'-(4'-ethylbenzyl)phenyl 5-thio-β-D-glucopyranoside has (a) peaks at 2θ=7.3°, 13.2°, 19.2°and 21.8°in powder X-ray diffraction (Cu-Kα), (b) characteristic absorption bands at 1,492 cm<SP>-1</SP>, 1,238 cm<SP>-1</SP>, 832 cm<SP>-1</SP>and 742 cm<SP>-1</SP>in an infrared absorption spectrum, and (c) an exothermic peak at 117-123°C and an endothermic peak at 157-163°C in a differential scanning calorimetry.
