PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiral type separation membrane capable of exhibiting a predetermined performance while sufficiently maintaining a sealing property of a sealing part at a periphery of a central pipe even for deformation of an element and a high pressure load, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The spiral type separation membrane element is provided with a spirally wound cylindrical winding body on a periphery of the central pipe 2 with a hole in the state that a separation membrane, a feeding side flow passage material and a permeation side flow passage material are superposed. In the spiral type membrane element, the sealing part for preventing mixing of the feeding side fluid and the permeation side fluid is provided. An inner peripheral side sealing part is formed by an adhesive resin interposed between an outer peripheral surface of the central pipe 2 and an inner peripheral side end of the separation membrane, and an annular plate 1 externally inserted to the central pipe 2 is adhered to an inner peripheral side of an end side of the separation membrane by at least the inner peripheral side sealing part.
