<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method, which can simply adjust the contrast of a captured image using only the captured image having light and dark portions, and eliminate dependency on the input image and lost of color balance after conversion. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes an image input means 10 for converting input analogue image signals vi to digital image data, an image processing means 11 for executing desired image processing on the converted digital image data to produce processed image data v, an image synthesizing means 12 for synthesizing the processed image data with the digital image data to produce synthesized image data, and an image output means 13 for converting the synthesized image data to analogue synthesized image signals.
