METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING WATER BY USING POROUS CARBON ELECTRODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating water by using a porous carbon electrode, wherein a very small amount of a persistent organic compound contained in waste water can be decomposed with high treatment efficiency. SOLUTION: The method for treating water by using the porous carbon electrode comprises the steps of: forming one electrode of a pair of electrodes for generating a corona discharge from porous carbon having nanometer-sized pores; bringing the organic matter-containing water to be treated into contact with the electrode formed from porous carbon; and decomposing the organic matter by the corona discharge. The organic matter contained in the water to be treated is adsorbed on the surface of a pore of porous carbon and decomposed while being concentrated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
