PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which improves security for originals after reading the image. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with: original recovery trays 54, 56, and 58 with locks for housing originals after reading the images; a memory 34 for storing identifying information such as user IDs and passwords; an operating unit 36 for receiving inputs of identifying information, a collator 38 for collating the identifying information received by the operating unit 36 with the identifying information stored in the memory 34, and a controller 20 for unlocking the locks of the original recovery trays 54, 56, and 58 having locks, if the collation result shows that both match.
