PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and reliably enable setting of a communication parameter required for a radio communication. SOLUTION: An electronic still camera 1 is provided with: a radio communication portion 5 which transmits image information or the like as a radio signal to an external communication device 11 through an antenna 5a; and an optical communication portion 6 which obtains a communication parameter 14a required when the radio communication portion 5 performs a radio communication, from the external communication device 11 by an optical signal. The optical communication portion 6 is provided with a light emitting portion 6a which emits an optical signal to the external communication device 11 and a light receiving portion 6b which receives an optical signal from the external communication device 11. The light emitting portion 6a emits an informing signal which informs an operation state of the electronic still camera 1 to a user as an optical signal except when the communication parameter 14a is obtained from the external communication device 11. The light receiving portion 6b receives light from a subject and outputs a signal corresponding to a received intensity to a controller 8 when an image taking portion 2 takes an image of the subject.
