PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a latent heat storage device for an engine capable of realizing satisfactory atomization characteristic of fuel and suppressing adhesion of fuel on an internal wall face of an intake port by utilizing heat by a latent heat storage material efficiently to improve emission. SOLUTION: This latent heat storage device 5 is provided with the latent heat storage material 6 arranged around an intake manifold 4 in the vicinity of the intake port 2 and a nucleus start electrode 10 for nucleus start of the latent heat storage material 6. A cooling water passage 7 communicating with a bypass cooling water passage 8 circulating in a cylinder head 1a is arranged around the latent heat storage material 6. The latent heat storage material 6 in an excessively cooled condition performs nucleus start at cold start time to heat air circulating in the intake manifold 4 and improve emission. After warming up, the latent heat storage material 6 is returned into the excessively cooled condition by cooling water having high temperature supplied from the bypass cooling water passage 8 into the cooling water passage 7.
