PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide composite powder for powder metallurgy essentially consisting of copper-coated iron powder and a method for producing the same where, in the production of raw material powder essentially consisting of copper-coated iron for an oil impregnated sintered bearing or the like, the fluidity and apparent density of sintered raw material powder are improved, its sintering characteristics such as radial crushing strength are improved, and further, cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: The composite powder for powder metallurgy essentially consisting of copper-coated iron powder and having excellent fluidity and radial crushing strength is composed of a powdery mixture of atomized copper powder of 20 to 43 wt.% and copper-coated iron powder having a Cu content of 30 to 50 wt.%. In the method for producing composite powder for powder metallurgy essentially consisting of copper-coated iron powder and having excellent fluidity and radial crushing strength, iron powder is plated with copper, so as to produce copper-coated iron powder having a Cu content of 30 to 50 wt.%, thereafter, atomized copper powder of 20 to 43 wt. is added to the copper-coated iron powder, and mixing is performed.
