PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the generation of NOx and smoke, by forming a uniform lean mixture, by promoting the diffusion of fuel and mixing with air, in a premixed compression self-ignition type internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A recessed head cavity 29 is formed on an explosive surface 28 of a cylinder head 12 opposed to a top surface of a piston 11, and an injection nozzle 13 having a plurality of fuel injection ports 44 for injecting the fuel toward a peripheral wall surface 31 of the head cavity 29, is arranged in a bottom part of the head cavity 29. A recessed piston cavity 20 is formed on the top surface of the piston 11, and a bottom surface 30 of the head cavity 29 is formed as a flat surface in substantially parallel to the explosive surface 28 of the cylinder head 12. The peripheral wall surface 31 is inclined in an expansively opening shape toward the piston 11 side. An opening diameterϕX of the head cavity 29 and an opening diameterϕY of the piston cavity 20, are set in the relationship ofϕY≥1.2×ϕX. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
